Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 S, a Small Wild SUV

Mercedes has introduced a powerful version of its compact SUV GLA in a strong AMG definition with 421 horsepower and all-wheel drive.

Schizophrenia is everywhere in the automotive world. While Mercedes aims to establish its status as a highly credible alternative to Tesla in electric vehicles (cars and trucks), the German manufacturer is also continuing its efforts in products that generate high levels of CO2.

Thus, a very aggressive variant of the small SUV GLA is now here, which intrinsically is not sporty. By fitting it with a 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine producing 421 horsepower and adding some styling effects to its bodywork, the problem seems solved… Combine this with an all-wheel drive 4MATIC+, a stiffer suspension, large 21-inch wheels housing impressive discs and calipers, and the job is done. The transmission is an 8-speed dual-clutch model.

The four exhaust outlets will surely produce an appealing sound, but the rear spoiler gives a tuning connotation that isn’t the most appealing. Moreover, the vehicle looks tall and thus somewhat disproportionate in its dimensions.

Ultimately, the most impressive aspect is inside, with a high-quality atmosphere and finish. The bucket seats and aluminum inserts are particularly attractive.

The target audience isn’t clearly defined, but it can reach 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and flirt with 270 km/h (on track). WLTP consumption is 10 liters / 100 km (so budget around 13 liters in reality) and 227 g of CO2/km, which in France translates to an eco-tax penalty of 50,000 euros.

Therefore, you might not see many on our roads.
