A Unique Rolls-Royce as a Birthday Gift

Rolls-Royce presents “The Pearl Cullinan”, a unique custom-made car ordered by the owner’s family for their anniversary.

This is the first bespoke project revealed by Dubai’s Private Office, which works with local partner dealerships for the Middle East and Africa region. “The Pearl Cullinan” was ordered in early 2022 by a longstanding Rolls-Royce client, on the occasion of his father’s 90th birthday.

A Custom Finish

The Bespoke Pearl Rose finish is inspired by the owner’s favorite color, a shade of pink, and is exclusively reserved for this vehicle. It will not be available to any other customer in the future. Rolls-Royce’s paint specialists at Goodwood used carefully selected pigments to recreate a delicate touch of pink, very rarely found in the finest natural pearls. Exceptionally, the paint combines metallic and pearlescent effects to give extraordinary depth and luster.

The finish required about 30 different iterations, each applied to a different panel of the bodywork. These were sent to the client to ensure the color appeared correct in sunlight typical of the Middle East. The paint also underwent extensive technical testing to ensure it would not be affected by heat or UV rays throughout its lifespan.

A Rolls-Royce Cocoon

The interior of “The Pearl Cullinan” features two different leather colors. The front seats, favored by the father as a passenger, are upholstered in his preferred gray cashmere. In homage to the family’s heritage, the rear seats are dressed in a fiery red inspired by the color of the material in which pearls are presented to clients, highlighting their subtle natural color variations. Similarly, the walnut burl veneer echoes the wooden presentation boxes traditionally used to give pearls to customers upon request. The Spirit of Ecstasy mascot is plated in rose gold.

Celebration of Mother-of-Pearl

The rear-mounted trays pay tribute to this noble material. The upper surface displays a complex circular pattern inspired by traditional Arab designs. Each tray is inlaid with 1,351 individual mother-of-pearl pieces, each carefully selected and hand-placed in the walnut burl marquetry, then sealed with a clear lacquer. The natural variations and color differences of mother-of-pearl and wood make each tray a unique work of art.

For the first time at Rolls-Royce, the dashboard clock in bespoke design is set within a mother-of-pearl frame. The dial and hands are in rose gold. The central rotating dial is also finished in mother-of-pearl, giving it a tactile quality similar to that of jewelry.

Above the occupants, the custom Starlight roof displays the sky as it appeared at night and at the very spot where the client’s father was born.
