Hyundai Ioniq 5 eN1 Cup

Hyundai unveiled an exclusive racing version of its Ioniq 5, the eN1 Cup, in Seoul. We tell you everything.

Hyundai continues its relentless pursuit of legitimacy in the world of motorsport. After launching a highly aggressive version of its boxy family car, Ioniq 5 N, the South Korean manufacturer now shows racing ambitions.

During the N Festival dedicated to its sporty lineup, Hyundai outlined details of a future eN1 Cup version. All the ingredients for a good track-ready car are being used. A weight loss of about 250 kg compared to the production model is expected, still bringing it to around 1800 kg… The use of exotic materials such as carbon, plastic fiber, and polycarbonate for the windows will be intensive. Lowered suspension, slick tires, and an FIA roll cage are included. An aerodynamic body kit designed to cool the mechanics and battery, along with aerodynamic appendages, complete the package.

The overall look is quite striking. To spice things up, external speakers will give the Ioniq 5 eN1 Cup a sporty sound, which teams can customize.

No further technical specifications have been provided, except that racing debut is expected as early as spring 2024. First in Asia, possibly then in Europe. We can only extrapolate from the Hyundai Ioniq 5N, which already develops 650 horsepower and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. The eN1 Cup version is expected to be even more formidable.
