Often delayed, the future Porsche Macan electric will begin its marketing and first deliveries in mid-2024.

Porsche does not want to disappoint and has therefore taken its time to deliver the most perfect copy possible. Scheduled for 2022, then 2023, the electric Macan will finally be here in 2024. Its official reveal is imminent, and sales will start in the first months of next year. Finally, deliveries will be honored from mid-2024.

Porsche has announced the technical features of the Macan, which are impressive in terms of technology and sportiness.

A supercharged powertrain

Of a size quite similar to the current Macan, its electric counterpart will nevertheless be 100% new. It will largely rely on the PPE platform, already used by the Taycan sedan. The battery will be repositioned between the axles with a weight distribution of 48/52% front to rear. This indicates a desire for sporty and dynamic driving behavior.

The chemistry of the battery will have a 25% higher density than that of the Taycan, and consequently, higher range. Luckily, as range was not the primary quality of the larger sedan. With a capacity of 100 kWh netto, Porsche promises 500 kilometers of autonomy for the new Macan. A standard figure, nothing more.

Special feature of this battery: its modules will be interchangeable in case of need for repairs, following a well-thought-out European directive. The nominal power of the Turbo version will be 450 kW (612 hp), with a peak at 495 kW (675 hp). As for torque, both electric motors will deliver over 1000 Nm! Acceleration promises to be mind-blowing.

An ultra-dynamic behavior

As expected from Porsche, driving pleasure will be top-notch. The chassis will come standard with 4-wheel steering for very agile and lively handling. This will also help with turning radius in city or parking situations.

The front suspension will feature double triangulation to ensure maximum steering precision. The rear will have multi-link suspension for comfort and ease of driving. Depending on the version, damping will be either passive or actively controlled.

Very short charging times

The battery will operate under an 800-volt system. So, charging will allow up to 270 kW, just like the Taycan. Finding such fast chargers remains a challenge… Theoretically, the charge can go from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes. An exceptional performance for a 100 kWh battery. In other words, the customer could regain 100 km of range in just 4 minutes!

For a slower domestic socket, the new Macan will be compatible with a standard 11 kW outlet. It will take about half a day to recharge to 100% at home or at work. Another impressive and cool feature: during heavy braking, the Macan can regenerate up to 240 kW! A capability learned in competition, whether at the 24 Hours of Le Mans or in Formula E.

The other major pride of Porsche will be its ultra-intelligent trip planner. Thanks to a very sophisticated GPS mapping system that integrates topography, weather, traffic, etc., the software will advise you in real time on the optimal speed to adopt. This way, you will “drive intelligently” depending on whether you’re on a hill, a descent, loaded, etc. The goal, like in the Tortoise and Hare fable, is to offer the shortest average travel time by including recharge stops. Clever!

Conclusion

Launched in 2014 and already produced in over 800,000 units, the Porsche Macan is a commercial success. Made in Leipzig, Germany, the new electric model will need to perform just as well.

Its price will start below 100,000 euros in France, although Porsche initially plans to market the most high-performing… and therefore expensive. That’s the game.

In France, the issue of the Weight Penalty could also significantly increase the cost…
