MG MG3

By unveiling its 195-horsepower hybrid MG3, modern and well-finished, the Chinese-British manufacturer MG is shaking up the market.

Although the MG3 is a novelty in France, it has already had a very successful career in Great Britain in its previous version. Ask Renault and Peugeot UK what they think about it, and you’ll understand that the fact that it crosses the Channel doesn’t please them.

Measuring 4.12 meters long, this B-segment hatchback is more spacious than the previous model but retains compact dimensions ideal for everyday urban use. Slight disappointment in the trunk with only 293 liters.

The Hybrid+ technology from MG makes its debut in the all-new MG3 and is the first non-rechargeable conventional hybrid system mounted on an MG model. Equipped with a 1.5-liter petrol engine producing 75 kW (102 hp) and an electric motor of 100 kW (137 hp), it slightly disrupts the balance between the two powertrains, which had previously favored the thermal engine. Ultimately, a generous power output of 195 hp allows for acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 8 seconds.

An innovative Hybrid+ powertrain

The internal combustion engine can serve both to propel the car and to power the electric motor in extended range mode. The MG3 can thus be driven in the following modes, each automatically selected by the Hybrid+ system:

  • EV – Electric drive only as long as the charge allows
  • Series – The engine drives the generator, which powers the electric motor for propulsion.
  • Series and charge – Driving in series mode with battery charging at low charge.
  • Drive and charge – The engine drives the wheels and simultaneously charges the battery via the generator.
  • Parallel – Both the engine and the electric motor drive the wheels.

The MG3 features a classic interior but is particularly refined. The dual-screen cockpit is a notable feature. Drivers have access to a 7-inch digital dashboard and a central infotainment system of 10.25 inches. The graphics and responsiveness of the two floating screens have been improved by MG engineers, and the piano keys on the center console ensure maximum safety and convenience during driving.

Although its price has not yet been officially announced, it has long been known that it will start just below the symbolic threshold of 20,000 euros for the Standard base trim.
