Skoda: Why Will Its Future Compact SUV Snub Europe?

Czech manufacturer Skoda is set to develop and produce an unprecedented compact SUV in India, which will not be intended for the European market.

Growing fast. Skoda no longer wants to be satisfied with just the European market and aims to expand its reach. India is the new target where, after launching the Kushaq SUV and the Slavia sedan, Skoda will develop and produce a 4-meter-long compact SUV there. The launch is already very close, scheduled for the first half of 2025. It can be said that the development is largely advanced.

Today, Skoda unveils a first stylistic sketch of this mid-sized SUV, comparable to a Renault Captur example.

Really not expensive?

In terms of price, the new model will serve as the entry point to Skoda’s lineup in India. The Czech firm is targeting a new customer base. Surprisingly, this SUV does not yet have a name. Fans are encouraged to suggest one through a social media campaign using the hashtag #NameYourSkoda. Seven names are currently in vote, but new ideas are also welcome.

This new product will not be electric but simply petrol-powered. A technical solution that, indeed, currently excludes it from European dealerships. With this new model, Skoda aims to reach 100,000 annual sales in India across all ranges. Given the country’s population of a billion, this volume is relatively limited.
