Alpine succeeds in its Hypercar hazing

In Qatar, the two Alpine Hypercars finished the race, with a first Top 10 and the first WEC points for the leading car.

The contract has been fulfilled for Alpine, marking its first appearance with the hybrid A424 in the Hypercar category. The French team completed the 1812 km of Qatar, the opening round of the WEC, with both cars finishing and without major mechanical issues. As a cherry on top, the leading car was the best new team on the grid, surpassing BMW, Lamborghini, and Isotta Fraschini thanks to the 8th place of the Alpine #35 driven by the trio Charles Milesi / Ferdinand Habsburg / Paul-Loup Chatin. An 8th place that earned points for Philippe Sinault’s team.

The Alpine A424 keeps the pace

While reliability was on point, performance was also quite encouraging for a debut. The French LMDh was not out of place in its battles against Toyota and BMW, two older models compared to the A424.

Alpine #36, finishing 12th, was also in the running for points but some mistakes—in particular a spin into the gravel by Mick Schumacher, fortunately without consequences—prevented it from reaching the Top 10. Still, this does not tarnish the good overall performance of the leading car this weekend, especially for the German driver, who was delighted with his first WEC experience.

In the championship, Alpine is ranked 5th among Manufacturers with 12 points, thanks to the 8th place of car #35 (in the Manufacturer standings, only the best car from each manufacturer counts).
