Is Tesla Model Y mocking Nio?

Nio’s CEO, William Li, is convinced that his new creation will be better and cheaper than the Tesla Model Y.

We introduced you last October to the details of Nio’s establishment in France. The manufacturer has been diligently preparing its arrival in Europe for three years and does not seem to lack ambition!

The next offensive will not be under the name Nio, but under its sub-brand Alps. The first model will directly compete with the Model Y, and the company’s CEO, confident in its strength, is asking potential buyers of the American SUV to wait and see its model before signing a purchase agreement.

Better than a Tesla?

The first pre-production units of the Alps have rolled off the assembly lines last October and are undergoing continuous optimization, said Mr. Li, adding that the company will monitor the fierce price competition before setting its pricing grid. Interestingly, the first prototypes spotted on the road feature a charming message in Chinese on the rear window: “Better than a Tesla”.

Not much is known about this car, except that it will offer a “battery swap” option. Nio has prioritized this technology and is negotiating with more and more manufacturers in Europe to develop it. The latest third-generation PSS 3.0 sites in Malmö and Arlandastad, Sweden, can each perform up to 408 battery swaps per day and store up to 21 electric vehicle batteries.

Finally, the interior of this Alps should echo Tesla’s design with minimalism and a single screen consolidating all controls. Style-wise, it is again very close to the American SUV! If you are going to challenge an established model, why not play on the same field!
