The €25,000 electric SUV from Skoda is Epiq

Skoda unveils the first photos and technical features of its small electric SUV. An expensive but clever and well-designed vehicle.

This new model will be called the “Epiq.” An quite ambitious name, but what else to expect from a manufacturer like Skoda that sells a “Superb” sedan?

The first images released by Skoda of the upcoming 100% electric city SUV are captivating for more than one reason. The manufacturer seems to have designed a rectangular box and tried to fit everything possible inside. Ultimately, the Epiq resembles a Kei Car—small Japanese cars that exploit a regulation limiting their size for tax benefits. But all resemblance ends here, as with an overall length of 4.10 meters, the urban crossover provides enough space for five people and a generous cargo volume of up to 490 liters.

In search of space

With an entry price around 25,000 euros and a 100% electric range of over 400 kilometers, the Epiq positions itself in a difficult market segment where it will have to compete against cars under 20,000 euros such as the Citroën Ë-C3, Dacia Spring, or BYD Seagull, to name a few. It can rely on a modern and solid look that Skoda calls… “Modern Solid.” Well spotted. The bumpers are sturdy and aggressive, but it’s easy to see that they may not pass homologation in this form.

The ongoing quest for the “Modern Solid” continues inside the minimalist cabin, which makes extensive use of sustainable materials. There are numerous storage spaces, and this first version features a small driver display hidden behind a stylish two-spoke steering wheel with physical buttons and dials, and a sizable central screen. The trunk offers many clever accessories such as bag hooks, cargo elements, fastening hooks, and a hidden compartment under the floor for charging cables and small equipment.

The electric urban SUV will be manufactured in Pamplona, Spain, as part of a joint project within the Volkswagen Group between Skoda, Cupra, and Volkswagen. It’s likely sharing a common electric platform! Its official presentation is scheduled for the second half of the year, with commercial launch expected in 2025.
