CUPRA Formentor Shows Its Teeth

The 2024 version of CUPRA’s successful sporty SUV unveils the new aggressive stylistic direction of the Spanish brand.

The new front end with a “shark nose” shape, three-triangle headlights, and the massive grille are all part of CUPRA’s latest design language, which we first saw on the Tavascan SUV coupe. The contorted grille design even forced designers to move the CUPRA logo onto the hood. The triangular motif is echoed in the taillights, and the LED light bar across the width features an illuminated CUPRA logo. The modified bumper gives the rear view the impression that the Formentor is wider and includes a diffuser.

Inside, the Formentor now features a 12.9-inch central touchscreen with a new infotainment system, which, according to CUPRA, offers a more user-friendly interface, especially for climate controls. It still uses touch sliders for temperature and cabin volume, but they are now backlit. Widgets are also available, don’t worry.

CUPRA collaborated with Sennheiser to develop a new 12-speaker audio system, which will be available optionally in the Formentor as well as in its sibling models, the CUPRA Leon hatch and estate, which have also been revealed.

The new Formentor is available with a wide range of petrol, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid engines. Power outputs range from 150 hp for the 1.5-liter with a six-speed manual transmission to 330 hp with the 2.0-liter turbo e-hybrid. The latter features all-wheel drive and a new torque distribution technology that can transfer power independently between the rear wheels during turns. Good news for drifting enthusiasts, this has allowed CUPRA to include a drift mode!
