The Opel Frontera Fully Electric Under 30,000 Euros

The new Opel Frontera is available from 29,000 euros in 100% electric version and 24,000 euros in 48-volt Hybrid version.

The Opel Frontera has little in common with its off-road ancestor except for the prominent wheel arches and door sills. It is the first production model to proudly display the new Opel logo at the center of its distinctive front face, the Opel Vizor. Its overall look will, however, certainly remind you of something, and this is no coincidence as it is a copy-and-paste job of the Citroën C3 Aircross already marketed in South America.

While the original Frontera was all about off-road adventures, the new version emphasizes versatility. With a 7-seater option, it is more aimed at city dwellers, outdoor enthusiasts, and families. An emphasis on modularity and comfort is evident, with the new patented front seats featuring a central slot in the cushion to relieve pressure on the coccyx. Why not give it a try…

A Very Light Hybrid and a Short-Range Electric

The new Frontera is available in a 48-volt hybrid version and a fully electric version. The initial hybrid is equipped with a 1.2-liter turbo petrol engine producing 100 hp, combined with a 21 kW (28 hp) electric motor and a six-speed electrified dual-clutch transmission. This is good for reducing CO2 emissions, but for driving sensations or simply driving enjoyment, we will have to wait for a slightly more powerful variant with a 1.2 turbo engine producing 100 kW (136 hp).

More concerning, no technical details about the Frontera Electric have been released, except that it will have an “over 300 kilometers” range according to the WLTP standard. Additionally, a long-range version will also be offered, allowing up to 400 kilometers of range. Numbers very close to those of the Citroën ë-C3… But while the small Citroën is designed to be fully electric, this is not the case for the Frontera, and we know that cars not originally designed to be electric are rarely the most efficient. Let’s wait before judging this Frontera, as the interior finish appears very rich with nice details and two large screens for a particularly attractive price.
