Replacement vehicles to expedite recalls at Citroën

Citroën recalls all C3 and DS 3 models manufactured between 2009 and 2019 and implements a vast replacement vehicle program.

Since 2020, Citroën has been increasing recall operations for its models equipped with Takata airbags. The issue involves certain chemicals present in the inflators of these airbags that can deteriorate over time, especially when exposed to hot and humid weather conditions.

The situation is serious and absolutely not one of euphemism or concealment, as the manufacturer states that “In the event of an accident resulting in airbag deployment, the airbag inflator may rupture with excessive force, potentially causing serious injuries or even death in the worst-case scenario.”

Reactivity and Transparency

Citroën’s parent company, Stellantis, is asking all holders of Citroën C3 and DS Automobiles DS 3 models manufactured from 2009 to 2019, located in certain Mediterranean European areas, including southern France, to immediately stop driving these vehicles and visit the website below to complete a simple registration aimed at collecting important information to initiate necessary repairs as soon as possible. The situation is complex for the French manufacturer far beyond the terribly negative image this operation reflects and the legal actions that will inevitably follow. The Takata company has gone bankrupt, and Stellantis must source all potentially defective parts from another supplier at its own expense.

As part of this recall campaign, Stellantis is currently making nearly 60,000 replacement vehicles available to its customers across the countries, including 25,000 in France. Since the beginning of the crisis, the brand’s communication has been frank, transparent, honest, and courageous. A rather rare fact that genuinely deserves to be recognized for its true value.
