This Ford F-150 Lightning boasts 1,400 electric horsepower!
Ford has just unveiled the final version of its electric F-150 pickup, which will tackle Pikes Peak at the end of June 2024.
Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be thrilling! Ford and Pikes Peak (Pikes Peak in English, of course…) in Colorado, it’s a great love story. The first encounter dates back to 1916 when a Model T driven by Guy Petersen reached the summit in 28 minutes and 3 seconds. At that time, the track was fully dirt and the modest Ford T had only 20 horsepower under the hood… at sea level. But at an altitude of 4,300 meters, you must subtract 43% of that value. So only a handful of horses were left to climb the mountain.
More than a century later, in 2023, an electric truck driven by the Frenchman Romain Dumas completed the same route in 8 minutes and 47 seconds, nearly 20 minutes less! It should be noted that in the meantime, the track has been entirely paved (but remains very bumpy) and the Ford SuperVan 4.2 had over 1,200 horsepower!

Always Higher?
In 2024, Ford will return with the ambition to do even better and even more powerfully. Thus, the F-150 Lightning Supertruck boasts over 1,400 horsepower and a reduced weight! With its massive spoilers, this pickup is otherwise more steroid-infused than a Tesla Cybertruck, benefiting from 2.7 tons of aerodynamic downforce at 240 km/h, its top speed.
However, there is one detail not to be forgotten: with altitude, air density decreases and so does aerodynamic downforce. How much downforce will remain near the summit? Probably 43% less there as well. So it won’t be too much to contain the nearly 2 tons of the Ford F-150 Lightning Supertruck.

The spoilers are enormous and scattered everywhere, not to mention the huge rear diffuser that serves to suck air under the car to keep it glued to the ground.
See you on June 23, 2024, at Pikes Peak in the suburbs of Colorado Springs (USA) to witness the performance of this brilliant electric toy.
