Honda Raises the Prelude!

At Honda, perhaps more than anywhere else, the presentation of a concept car is quite significant. We had a strong feeling about this with the Prelude.

Honda celebrated 25 years of hybridization by presenting its Concept Prelude at the Japan Mobility Show and at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2023. The Japanese manufacturer seems more than satisfied with the reception of its coupe, as it has confirmed the return of the production model in Europe. A great piece of news that will be celebrated appropriately with a first public appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend.

Prelude is a sweet name for fans of the H brand. The original model made its debut in Europe 45 years ago and enjoyed a great career until 2001. Striving to honor the legacy of its predecessor, the new model will indeed be of its time with a hybrid powertrain.

The pleasure first

“The new Prelude is the result of 25 years of pioneering research and development in hybrid technologies. It also marks a new chapter in our history in this constantly evolving field,” rejoiced Tomoyuki Yamagami, chief engineer of large projects at Honda. “This model retains its ‘sporty’ DNA by perfectly combining the efficiency and environmental benefits of electric driving with an exhilarating driving experience, allowing users to escape their daily lives with enhanced driving pleasure.”

The concept presented in 2023 had already piqued our interest because one could easily imagine it hitting the road right away. No designer extravagance in this Prelude, just a delightful car. It is known that this type of pleasure car is not meant for long distances or breaking speed records. A hybrid engine derived from that of the Civic could yield a lightweight, fun, and reasonably priced vehicle.
