A French Bonus for This American?

The criteria for the French ecological bonus for being American-German dual citizens and benefiting from it.

Since July 15, 2024, the brand new Ford Explorer has joined the limited list of electric vehicles eligible for the ecological bonus. This is only fair as the vehicle meets all the criteria for the government grant. Ford’s new 100% electric SUV thus benefits from a welcome boost of 4,000 euros across all its standard and extended range propulsion versions.

So how can an American benefit from it? As a reminder, the eligibility method for the ecological bonus takes into account the overall environmental impact of the car. A virtuous journey that goes from its manufacturing to its operation without emissions, of course. The grant applies to vehicles priced under 47,000 euros, is capped at 4,000 euros, and can be increased to 7,000 euros if the reference tax income of the purchaser is less than or equal to 15,400 euros per share.

A German base for Ford

The new Explorer is built in Cologne, Germany, in a state-of-the-art factory that has received a 2 billion dollar investment from Ford. It is exclusively dedicated to the production of electric vehicles for the European market. With a price ranging from 43,900 euros for the standard range to 46,900 euros for the extended range, all rear-wheel drive propulsion versions of the new Ford Explorer are therefore eligible for the ecological bonus. The only version available for sale today, the extended range variant is equipped with a 77 kW battery allowing it to cover up to 602 km in the WLTP cycle. This model delivers a power of 286 hp, enabling it to reach 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds. Its battery can be charged from 10 to 80% in 28 minutes.
