What are the coolest options for the Renault R5?

Renault has promised a rich and playful customization experience for its new electric R5. Did it deliver?

Five versions of the Renault 5 E-Tech electric will be available by 2025: five, evolution, techno, iconic five, and the special Roland-Garros series. To ensure a successful launch of the model, the French manufacturer has decided to initially open orders for the techno and iconic five versions, equipped with the comfort range 52 kWh battery that offers up to 410 km of range in the WLTP cycle.

At 29,490 euros, the techno trim is a good starting point. For this price, you get a R5… pop green. It’s quite a surprising color choice as a standard, leading one to wonder if Renault is trying to make us pay for a less polarizing color. The manufacturer justifies this choice by a deliberate intention to offer a pop and tangy car. OK, but honestly, it’s a bit hard on the eyes, and we prefer to choose from the 13 optional colors that blend five hues, three roof trim options, and the two-tone choice with a black roof. To summarize, the pop green combined with a red or titanium trim and a black roof is priced at 400 euros. Then it goes up to 600 euros for yellow, white, black, or blue colors, and rises to 1200 euros if you choose to pair any of these colors with an optional roof trim and the black roof. We try to keep it simple, but it’s not. Not to mention that for an additional 600 euros, it’s possible to customize the front doors and roof with 4 sticker kits. We are already at 70 configurations! Only 2 wheel designs to relieve some pressure, but raising the total configurations to 140 options. We readily admit a small crush on the 18-inch Chrono wheels that add a bit of aggressiveness to the design for only 200 euros.

Inside, about twenty options allow you to customize the front center armrest. Covers, boxes, organizers… Plenty of nice little things for under 50 euros. Super smart and practical.

Among other interesting accessories, let’s note the 2 or 3-bike carrier adapted to the car that will delight weekend cyclists. An accessory that won’t damage the bodywork or break the lights or windows, for less than 500 euros. To wrap up this little tour in the configurator, it’s impossible not to fall for the cover priced at 240 euros. The bill is adding up, but your unique R5 is worth it.
