Eric Cantona Teams Up with the New Ford Capri

By relaunching the Capri, Ford aims to reinvent a legendary car and calls upon an iconic player for this purpose!

Nearly four decades after the production of the Capri coupe ceased, Ford wishes to resurrect this legendary name. Following the 100% electric Ford Explorer, the American manufacturer is launching a second electric SUV model called… Capri. This is a hard pill to swallow for fans of the model, especially for an architecture that will have no obvious familial link.

Already, Ford’s argumentation in presenting this new Capri is perplexing. With a range of over 627 km, fast charging, and a trunk of over 572 liters, it would be the ideal vehicle for getaways. We are not certain that the designers of the 1968 Capri had such specifications in mind. Well, in a sense, getaways might fit with the libertarian spirit of the time, but the trunk and range… While the light signatures can somewhat evoke the initial Capri, inside it is a complete break with a digital layout in every direction. In fact, it is a copy-paste of the Ford Explorer’s interior.

The Capri SUV is based on the proven MEB technical platform of the Volkswagen Group, though it has a more “coupe” style than the Explorer from which it takes most of its features. Ultimately, here is a nice SUV with an appealing technical sheet. It’s a Capri without being one, but the same can be said about the Mustang and Puma.

So to sweeten the deal, Ford has called Eric Cantona to the rescue, and we love it!
