The Bugatti Hybrid V16 Tourbillon on a Road Trip in Beverly Hills

After its presentation in Monterey, the Bugatti Tourbillon embarked on a small roadshow in Southern California.

After two decades, it was time for Bugatti to take a new path, that of hybridization. Under the hood of the Tourbillon beats a heart that is likely to mark a milestone in automotive history, an atmospheric V16 engine of 8.3 liters designed in collaboration with Cosworth. In addition to the announced 1,000 horsepower, the sound of this engine should be a delight for music lovers when it reaches the red zone at 9,000 rpm.

It is paired with two electric motors on the front axle and one electric motor on the rear axle. In total, the Tourbillon develops 1,800 horsepower thanks to an additional 800 horsepower from the electric motors. They are powered by a 25 kWh 800V oil-cooled battery that is housed in the center tunnel behind the passengers. The 100% electric range of 60 km is anything but ridiculous and shows that Bugatti has taken this hybrid path very seriously.

Since a Bugatti must above all be an object of surprise and wonder, the Tourbillon features a dashboard directly inspired by the watchmaking tradition it pays homage to. A true work of art made up of more than 600 pieces, crafted from titanium and incorporating precious stones such as sapphire and ruby. The steering wheel revolves around this masterpiece of complex engineering thanks to its fixed hub configuration, which allows the driver to have a clear view of the instruments regardless of the steering angle.

After this little horsepower outing, the hypersport car from Molsheim headed back to Europe to not miss the famous elegance contest Chantilly Arts & Elegance Richard Mille.
