The Peugeot E-208 slashed to 160 euros per month?

This offer on the 100% electric Peugeot E-208 has all the makings of a great deal, but as always, a closer look is necessary.

The current Peugeot 208 has undergone a significant facelift, yet it is still a car that shows the weight of its years. The addition of the new Peugeot logo and the very successful claw-like light signature has given it a nice boost, but its technical base is outdated compared to newer models, particularly those from China. More critically, its style clashes with the much more modern new range of the 3008, 5008, and even 408. However, we don’t expect a city car to have a concept car look, so it’s acceptable.

To boost sales of the car, Peugeot has crafted a tempting offer with a compelling argument: only 160 euros to spend each month to get behind the wheel. A long-term lease (LLD) for 37 months is ideal for a car that is nearing the end of its lifecycle. On paper, it looks perfect, but right from the second line of the offer, things get complicated with a first payment of 4,090 euros. So, an input of 18% of the car’s cash price, according to Peugeot’s website where it is listed at 23,100 euros with discounts.

And it gets even more complicated with the next line mentioning “Deducting state aid.” So, is it the 4,000 euros from the ecological bonus it is eligible for? No, it’s actually 8,500 euros of aid! A special regime for the lion brand? Not quite, it’s the maximum aid that a French citizen can receive, namely 4,000 euros from the base bonus, 3,000 euros in additional aid reserved for very low-income households, and 1,500 euros for scrapping an old vehicle. For these low-income families in need of a car, there is the Social Leasing program which will be renewed at the beginning of 2025, although its conditions are expected to be less favorable than in 2024. Unless Peugeot proves us otherwise, which we truly hope for, we don’t see how this offer can be attractive…
