McLaren is set to unveil the heir to the legendary F1

It is called McLaren W1 and has the very heavy task of succeeding a legendary sports car, the F1 of the 1990s.

McLaren Automotive is preparing to write a new chapter as a car manufacturer. A story that began in May 1992 when the McLaren F1 was officially presented in Monaco. 106 examples of this V12 BMW engine Supercar, designed by the brilliant engineer Gordon Murray, were produced between 1994 and 1998. On March 31, 1998, the McLaren F1 became the fastest production car in the world at 391 km/h. Although this record has since been broken, the F1 still holds the record for a homologated naturally aspirated engine car.

In 2013, the McLaren P1 came to renew this “1” lineage pronounced One. As the first hybrid sports car from the British manufacturer, it is a technological monster that paved the way for sports electrification with the Porsche 918 and the Ferrari LaFerrari. The McLaren Senna, launched in 2018, can also be associated with the F1 and P1. A tribute to the Brazilian driver who passed away in 1994, it was produced in 500 units… all sold before its public presentation! Thus, it is a heavy task to succeed these three models. The heir is announced; it is called McLaren W1 and will be revealed on Sunday, October 6, 2024.

The date of its presentation was not chosen at random. It marks the 50th anniversary of the first Constructors’ Championship title won by McLaren in F1 in 1974 and the second Drivers’ title of Brazilian champion Emerson Fittipaldi, which allowed for these prestigious laurels.
