The MG ZS Shakes Up the Hybrid Market with a Totally Crazy Price!

MG launches with a compact urban hybrid SUV of almost 200 hp, very well equipped, for less than 23,000 Euros!

The new MG ZS has taken a bit from each of its two predecessors, thermal and electric, to become a reference hybrid. There’s one common factor with its predecessors: an attractive price and features typical of higher-end models.

As you would have understood, the new ZS is only available as a hybrid. It gains a bit of size with a length of 4.43m (+11 cm) and a width of 1.82m (+1 cm), but maintains a dynamic profile by measuring just under the height limit. It’s not a modern marvel with a very classic, even somewhat bland, exterior and interior design, but at least it won’t shock any clientele. Interior space is increased with a wheelbase extended by 3 cm to 2.61 m and especially very sensible design choices. The ZS doesn’t exude fun inside, but everything is in its place without extravagance or frills.

Let’s be clear, this new MG ZS is not just an ordinary electrified thermal model, but a truly good hybrid. It features the Hybrid+ non-rechargeable powertrain introduced by the MG3. Generally, when talking about non-rechargeable hybrids, there’s unfortunately a strong chance that the electrification is only used to reduce CO2 emissions. Occasionally, it may provide a small boost in acceleration, but true hybrids that can be used equally well in electric and thermal modes are rare. There’s no concern with this ZS, which has clearly chosen to highlight electric propulsion, and that’s a good thing!

MG showcases its hybridization expertise

Its Hybrid+ powertrain comprises a 1.5 l 75 kW gasoline engine and a 100 kW electric motor paired with a 1.83 kWh battery. This architecture even disrupts the balance between the two engines, which until now favored the thermal option. Beyond great efficiency, this electrification technology delivers excellent performance. In the end, it provides a generous power of 195 hp, enabling it to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds and deliver brisk acceleration, as the 80-120 km/h range is covered in 7.2 seconds.

From the first trim level “Standard,” the new MG ZS Hybrid+ is well equipped with a 7-inch driver display, a 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, rear parking sensors with a rearview camera, automatic headlight activation, and keyless start. Features typically found on models over 30,000 euros.

So what is the launch price in France for this model, which is available for order today? To end the suspense, MG announced to us less than 24,000 euros, it will ultimately be 22,900 euros!
