BYD aims to scalp the Tesla Model Y

BYD made its grand debut at the 2022 Motor Show. Two years later, the Chinese giant is going on the offensive.

Let’s be honest, and no one at BYD will dispute this, it’s hard to know today in France that BYD is the world’s largest producer of electrified vehicles and is waging an intense battle against Tesla for global leadership in electric vehicles. The brand has only been present in our country for two years, since the last Motor Show.

While Seal, Atto 3, Han, and Tang are quietly making their way without much fuss, BYD has taken advantage of the media spotlight at this Motor Show to officially present the highly anticipated Sealion 7. This mid-sized SUV measuring 4,830 mm long, 1,925 mm wide, and 1,620 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,930 mm, could change the game as it seems tailor-made for the French market! It is built on the new electric platform of the Chinese manufacturer, which could offer unprecedented rapid charging capabilities. There are rumors of a charging capacity of 500 kW!

The Sealion 7 adopts the stylistic language of the brand’s latest creations with a welcome touch of sportiness. The front and rear faces feature optics nearly identical to those of the Seal or Seal U, but the car incorporates retractable door handles and a generous rear spoiler that modernize the overall very successful design. The brand identity is clear, a true achievement.

The 12-in-1 powertrain, another BYD hallmark, features the world’s fastest production engine, capable of maintaining a speed of 23,000 rpm, or 400 revolutions per second! This allows the all-wheel-drive version to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.

The interior finish is honestly impeccable and presents an interesting and, above all, very intelligent alternative to the minimalism of Tesla. The execution certainly deserves the jury’s praise, but for the award of excellence, we will have to wait for the pricing.
