Starting grid and schedule for the United States F1 Grand Prix

Head to the Circuit of the Americas for the eighteenth round of the 2024 F1 season.

After a four-week break, the F1 season has resumed with a bang in Austin, Texas. This American event marks the start of an intense Triple-Header, and to get into the rhythm we have not one, but two races this weekend as this event takes place in Sprint format for the fourth time this season. Victorious in yesterday’s short race, Max Verstappen will only start tonight in second position behind Lando Norris, his main rival in the Championship.

Behind the two Championship frontrunners, the Ferraris of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc have a real chance to shine under the Texan star-spangled banner. Since the beginning of the weekend, the Italian cars have been on fire… just like their drivers who have engaged in a fierce battle during the Sprint race, teetering on the edge of disaster several times. Fred Vasseur’s pre-race talk should be quite interesting.

On the French side, Pierre Gasly has performed brilliantly in qualifying, bringing his unruly Alpine to 7th position on the grid, well ahead of his teammate Esteban Ocon in 13th.

Incorporated into the Formula 1 calendar in 2012, the COTA, or “Circuit of The Americas,” is a very varied and complex track. Once past the first corner after an endless climb from the starting line, the first sector features a spectacular sequence of high and medium-speed turns. Two straights follow, each ending in heavy braking zones conducive to overtaking attempts. The final sector is extremely winding, and any excess enthusiasm is punished with dramatic off-track excursions that harm lap times.
