Welcome aboard the Alpine A290

The A290 inaugurates Alpine’s 100% electric Dream Garage, where it will soon be joined by the Sport Fastback A390 and the new A110.

The A290 has taken on the challenge of encapsulating the sensations so cherished behind the wheel of the A110 within a sporty city car framework. Compact and agile, it offers performance that is easily harnessed while ensuring everyday usability. Its electric platform, developed by the innovative minds of the Ampere division, along with charging services created by Mobilize, such as bidirectional V2G charging, positions it within a modern electric ecosystem. But can it overshadow the Renault 5, of which it is ultimately just a sporty variation? The Renault 5 Alpine achieved this feat in its time.

For Alpine is a truly unique exception in the automotive landscape. A brand born in 1955 in Dieppe at the initiative of a Renault dealer named Jean Rédélé. Note that Rédélé is not just an ordinary car salesman. A graduate of HEC and the youngest Renault dealer in France, he is primarily a car enthusiast and competitor who is eager to race against the clock behind the wheel of his 4CV. It is in the winding mountain passes of the Alps that he imagines the car of his dreams. A sleek, stylish, and lightweight car. He names his brand Alpine in homage to those mountains that he dreams of conquering behind the wheel of a car that comes to life in 1962, the A110.

The engine of the A290 is inspired by the approach taken by Jean Rédélé in his time with his boosted 4CV, transformed into an A106. Depending on the trim level, the Alpine A290’s engine is offered in two power levels: 180 hp in the GT and GT Premium versions, and 220 hp in the GT Performance and GTS. This allows it to go from 0 to 100 km/h in 7 and 6 seconds respectively, thanks to a contained weight of 1,479 kg. An Overtake function activated from a physical red button (named OV) on the steering wheel instantly delivers the maximum power of 220 hp. The A290 also features a launch control function that is triggered with a very simple procedure. During the resulting acceleration, a spectacular specific animation is implemented on the instrument screen.

The A290 is manufactured at the Douai plant, within ElectriCity, and its electric motor is also manufactured in France, in Cléon. Its battery will be produced in France starting in the summer of 2025.
