BMW Builds Its Future in Hungary

The first BMWs based on the new Neue Klasse platform have rolled out of the Debrecen factory in Hungary.

For now, these are only test vehicles intended to validate the options selected by BMW for its Neue Klasse platform. Before full-scale production can commence, the factory must first complete a preliminary phase of manufacturing vehicles close to the series. These prototype models go through all stages of production. This also means that all logistical processes, manufacturing equipment, and operations carried out by factory workers must already be functioning smoothly. These operations are just as complex as in actual series production. Despite the limited number of parts involved, they must be immediately available, which has already led BMW to invest heavily in suitable machine tools. Developing a new model is anything but a smooth ride like the Danube.

While the goal remains to identify and eliminate the tiniest problems, it doesn’t prevent the discovery of solutions to issues that haven’t yet arisen. According to the German automaker, these system tests for future models have already revealed significant potential for optimization. Similar to a growing child, the coming months will focus on refining essential functions and expanding the knowledge base acquired.

During this phase, new employees will also undergo intensive training on the facilities and machines. Close cooperation across all production areas will ensure seamless integration of operations for a smooth and successful series launch.
