10 Million Candles for BYD’s 30th Anniversary

BYD celebrated its 30th anniversary with the launch of its 10 millionth new energy vehicle.

BYD was eager to celebrate its status as the world’s leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles and batteries. It timed the release of this vehicle precisely during the anniversary year of its three decades of existence. The small startup, with only 20 employees, has grown into a multinational company employing nearly a million people worldwide. It took more than 18 years for BYD to produce its first 5 million vehicles, while the next 5 million rolled off the Chinese assembly lines in just 15 months. So just imagine where the Chinese manufacturer will be in 30 years…

Quite surprisingly, the 10 millionth vehicle produced does not directly bear the BYD badge, as it is a DENZA Z9. This stylish coupe sedan, measuring 5180 mm in length, 1990 mm in width, and 1500 mm in height, features a large panoramic glass roof and an intelligent electric rear spoiler. It has a lot of the DNA of Porsche… but above all, it features three electric motors! One 230 kW motor at the front and two 240 kW motors at the rear for a combined power of 710 kW (950 hp). This is certainly a way to emphasize the ambitious diversification of brands, with BYD as the generalist, DENZA for the premium segment, and YangWang on the extraordinary side.

The future of the manufacturer now hinges on massive investment in the development of smart technologies that incorporate artificial intelligence into automotive systems. But BYD is not neglecting the present, with comprehensive technological upgrades across its entire vehicle lineup. This is essential for BYD to remain at the forefront of technological progress, especially as its great rival Tesla continues to advance rapidly and European automakers finally seem to have realized that it’s time to move forward… or even better, to roll up their sleeves!
