McLaren W1

McLaren has rediscovered the taste for victory in F1 this season. From the track to the road, the exciting momentum is underway.

Better than anyone, McLaren knows that for a sports car manufacturer, the best way to bring customers to dealerships on Monday is to sell them a car that dominated on the track over the weekend. The W1 aims to be, in this regard, the link between the track and the road by leveraging technologies seen in F1.

McLaren Automotive has collaborated with the Californian company Divergent Technologies to design the suspension components of the W1. The successor to the F1 and P1 is equipped with a front suspension inspired by Formula 1 that is mounted directly into the carbon fiber monocoque, without a double chassis or reinforcement as seen on less extreme cars.

Divergent has designed a lower triangular component with an aerodynamic shape visible from outside the car. This true piece of craftsmanship was 3D printed by Divergent. The car is thus equipped with a revolutionary structural suspension that contributes both to the mechanical balance of the vehicle and is also integrated into its aerodynamic philosophy.

“This cutting-edge technology has allowed us to develop more complex suspension structures in the McLaren W1 than in any other car,” enthusiastically states Michael Leiters, CEO of McLaren Automotive. They improve our customers’ driving experience and support McLaren’s mission to continuously push the limits of performance.”
