Honda Finally Shifts Gear to Electric

Honda chose Las Vegas to showcase two visions of its 100% electric future. The moment has finally arrived!

Honda will aim to leave a lasting impression at CES 2025 with the reveal of two prototypes of its Honda 0 Series, scheduled for a global launch in 2026. The Japanese manufacturer, which has fallen behind in the electric vehicle market, hopes to use this event as a springboard to catch up with industry leaders.

At this fair, held from January 7 to 10 in Las Vegas, Honda will also unveil its own operating system, specifically designed for the Honda 0 Series. This development is part of an ambitious approach focusing on intelligence and connectivity, criteria now essential to appeal to a demanding audience.

Honda had already outlined the main features of the Honda 0 Series at CES 2024, summarized by the words “elegance, lightness, and intelligence.” This time, the conference scheduled for January 7 will highlight features related to automated driving, as well as a preview of the “System on Chip” device that will equip these software-defined models. This type of “SDV” vehicle relies on cutting-edge electronic systems where software controls and enhances functionalities, enabling remote updates and continuous personalization.

Nevertheless, will these announcements suffice to make Honda a major player in the electric market? Competition is fierce, led by pioneers like Tesla and Chinese brands flooding the market with competitive models. While the decision to develop an in-house OS and rely on SDV reflects a desire to differentiate, Honda is late to a race where innovation and economies of scale are critical.

CES 2025 will thus be a crucial test. Honda seems intent on catching up with promising solutions, but one question remains. Will these efforts enable the manufacturer to close the gap and truly make an impact in a rapidly evolving market?
