LOA: Tesla releases the Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive!

Tesla offers a €100 cheaper lease option at the beginning of January 2025 on its Model Y Long Range compared to the Standard Range.

It’s the world upside down! Tesla sends clear signals: they are no longer trying to push the Model Y Standard Range too much, but rather the Model Y Long Range Dual Motor. Of course, they need to clear stock before the new, deeply redesigned version arrives. But still, to this extent…

At the start of January 2025, the Long Range Dual Motor is available through lease with purchase option (LOA) at €299 per month over 36 months, compared to €399 per month for the less attractive Standard Range. Less attractive? Yes, because it’s more expensive with similar equipment, but with a less generous battery (455 km range versus 600 km for the Long Range Dual Motor), and much slower charging speeds (up to 175 kW versus 250 kW).

If that doesn’t dissuade you from your initial choice, you’ll need to explain. Better yet: the Long Range Fully Equipped version is offered at the same rate of €399 per month!

What does the contract say?

To understand, let’s look at the terms of the 36-month, 30,000-kilometer offer: Tesla requires an initial payment of €10,230 (-€2,000 ecological bonus) with the first installment, followed by 35 subsequent payments of €299. In total, this amounts to approximately €18,695. This is roughly the depreciation cost you would face if you purchased the vehicle, so it’s better not to tie yourself down. Leasing is more advantageous.

In the case of the Model Y Standard Range, the offer still spans 36 months and 30,000 kilometers, but with an initial payment of €11,230 (-€2,000 ecological bonus), already a €1,000 surcharge. Then follow 35 payments of €399, totaling €23,195. A difference of €4,500 over the same period compared to the Long Range Dual Motor!

The primary reason lies in the interest rate: 6.99% for Standard Range, versus… 0.99% for Long Range Dual Motor.

And just to discourage you from choosing Standard Range, its availability is pushed back to May 2025… instead of January 2025 (so immediately) for the long-range version. The shift is clear, isn’t it?
