Tesla is offering leasing on its Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive for less than €200 per month.

Is there a catch? The energy transition is dazzling drivers, who still wrongly believe that the starting price is higher than an equivalent internal combustion vehicle. This is largely false, because the standard equipment is often much more generous on electric cars.

This is especially true for the Tesla Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive, which, if it were available with a gasoline engine, wouldn’t be cheaper. And most importantly, this simplistic view of the purchase price rarely considers the operating costs afterward. And that’s where electric really wins the game.

Tesla has launched a highly aggressive promotion around its Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive. While there are no huge ads everywhere on the site, careful browsing reveals some surprising offers. Such as this 24-month lease and 20,000 kilometers for only 198 euros per month!

198 euros / month, interesting?

Factually, such an electric car with a massive range of 600 km is truly unbeatable. It is cheaper than 99% of electric vehicles on the market. But then, where is the catch? Well… there isn’t one, except for a hefty initial payment of 10,230 euros. Once the ecological bonus for 2025 is included, it drops to an upfront payment of 8,230 euros, followed by 23 payments of 198 euros.

Over the course of the lease, the total cost amounts to 12,784 euros… or about 532.66 euros spread out over the initial 8,230 euros. Ouch, that already stings more. The purchase option if you want to buy later would set you back 32,893 euros, for a total acquisition price of 45,677 euros. This is nearly the list price, thanks to the 0.99% APR rate set by Tesla for this Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive.

Why an article title with €115/month?

Simply because, subtracting the initial payment, and assuming you switch from a traditional SUV to this electric transition, your monthly bill would drop to about 115 euros. Here’s an explanation.

The total cost for a gasoline SUV consuming an average of 7.5 liters per 100 km at €1.80 per liter will be around 2,700 euros for 20,000 km, as permitted by the 24-month long-term lease. Meanwhile, for a Tesla Model Y consuming 16 kWh per 100 km with a cost of €0.23 per kWh, the overall cost for the same 20,000 km is about 700 euros. That’s a difference of about 2,000 euros, or roughly €83.33 in energy savings per month. And that’s not counting the lower maintenance costs…
