Tesla Model Y: Do you like the new Glacier Blue color?

The new Tesla Model Y, marketed in China since January 2025, features a new body color.

It’s always intriguing to analyze consumption habits in different regions. Between the United States, Europe, and China, Tesla consumers’ preferences are not the same.

Thus, the launch of the new Tesla Model Y, on Friday, January 10, 2025, in China, prompts a revision of many commercial practices. Already, it is observed that two body colors have disappeared: solid black and Deep Blue. These paints cost 1,300 euros in Europe versus 8,000 Yuans (1,000 euros) in China.

Now, the standard color, unaffected by any surcharge, is Stealth Gray. This reflects industrial rationalization, as this color was already available on the Tesla Model 3. In Europe, the “free” color is white, reminiscent of company cars from the 1990s.

In the Chinese catalog of the Tesla Model Y, you’ll still find Pearl White (1,000 euros), Flame Red (1,600 euros), which makes a comeback after being replaced by Cherry Red, as well as Quicksilver Gray (1,600 euros).

The new Glacier Blue shade of the Tesla Model Y 2025 strongly resembles the so-called Azure Blue of the Ferrari palette since the 1950s. The result is quite appealing, highlighting the curves of the electric SUV nicely. Tesla is aiming to make the volumes of its Model Y more expressive, as its initial criticism was the monotony of its shapes.

With its look reminiscent of a Robotaxi or mini Cybertruck, the best-seller from China and the U.S. has gained charisma. It remains to be seen if this Glacier Blue will convince European buyers. On the Old Continent, it is uncommon to take risks with eccentric colors, as residual values often guide purchasing decisions.

It’s a pity, especially considering that 95% of Tesla Model Y in circulation in France are either white or black.
