Imagining itself as an electronics brand, like Apple, Tesla aims to capitalize on a core fanbase that will defend it passionately at every Keynote. The Model Y is envisioned as an iPhone where every novelty, update, or triviality is celebrated as a global event.

However, buying a car is not quite like buying a smartphone, because the price difference is somewhat more impactful day-to-day. Consequently, critical thinking remains quite resilient—for now—even among Tesla’s earliest fans. Mobiwisy visited the first French forum dedicated to the Tesla Model Y on Facebook, and negative reactions towards the restyled version 2.0, nicknamed Juniper, are notably harsh. They expose a deep frustration that should alert the American manufacturer. But is it already too late?

What is the problem with the Tesla Model Y 2025?

Restyling a car that’s several years old is always a risky exercise. Quite simply because the central volumes cannot change – roughly from the windshield to the doors, including the roof shape – so grafting a new nose and rear often looks false.

In the case of the Model Y, giving it the look of a Robotaxi— which essentially means driving with a service vehicle—can also be a handicap. Some manufacturers have suffered in the past from equipping their taxi fleets, as the cars in question lose all prestige.

At the rear, the same feeling of bulkiness with a trunk that is, luckily, reduced by the presence of the license plate. However, it lacks a bump and lighting to accommodate it, which is surprising, at least on the first models destined for China and Asia. As for the front, the integration is also very rough, like a wart in the middle of the face.

Creating new from old is not easy, and let’s give credit to the Tesla Model Y for truly evolving in our streets before judging it definitively. Still, from the comments of Tesla fans, it seems to be starting out with a notably negative bias.
