The future Alpine A220 has its first customer

AGTZ Alpine A220

It took a touch of madness to imagine the AGTZ Twin Tail, a reinterpretation of the legendary Alpine A220, unveiled at Rétromobile 2025.

One year after announcing the independent project led by La Squadra, a Polish classic car specialist, and Atelier Zagato, the first production version of the AGTZ Twin Tail is presented at the prestigious Rétromobile show in Paris. This unique configuration was developed with its owner, inspired by the legendary 1960s A220.

The AGTZ Twin Tail pays homage to the A220, an icon of motorsport, whose avant-garde design made a mark on history. At the time, this French car, initially designed with a long aerodynamic tail for the straightaways of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, was modified with a more compact and agile silhouette. This bold change allowed it to excel in hill climbs.

More than 50 years later, La Squadra and Atelier Zagato draw inspiration from this heritage to create a rolling work of art. The AGTZ Twin Tail features an unprecedented characteristic but consistent with its model: a rear bodywork that is removable, allowing a quick switch from Long Tail to Short Tail configurations. The detached part can also be displayed as a functional art piece.

A Technical Base from Alpine A110

Built on the chassis of the A110, spiritual successor to the A220, each AGTZ Twin Tail is handcrafted in Zagato’s Milanese workshops, which have been operating since 1919. Production is limited to 19 units. The very first customer model, Commission #3, has just been completed.

Commission #3 embodies the spirit of the A220 through extensive customization. Inspired by chassis #1736 from 1969, this car features a livery evocative of the 24 Hours of Le Mans of that era, bespoke details, and specially designed wheels for this model.

Unveiled at Rétromobile, which is celebrating its 49th edition this year, Commission #3 reinterprets the golden age of motorsport with a decidedly modern touch. Meanwhile, Zagato’s ateliers are already working on the next units, with orders filling quickly for this ultra-exclusive series.
