The first “normal” Tesla Model Y rolls off the factory line

Tesla has officially launched mass production of the refreshed Model Y at the Shanghai Gigafactory. The first deliveries are ahead of schedule.

This Tuesday, February 18, Tesla China announced on social media that mass production of the refreshed Model Y, code-named “Juniper,” had begun at the Shanghai Gigafactory. Photos of employees celebrating this historic milestone with plenty of confetti reveal that production actually started on February 17, a day before the official announcement.

The first serial-produced models feature the new Glacier Blue color, confirming that these are no longer limited Launch Series models, but standard models. This new Glacier Blue, a 2025 novelty, strongly resembles the so-called Azure Blue from Ferrari’s palette since the 1950s. The finish is quite pleasing, nicely highlighting the curves of the electric SUV. Tesla is aiming to give more expression to the volumes of its Model Y, whose initial criticism was its banal shape. Tesla also confirmed that the first deliveries, originally scheduled for March, will now begin at the end of February, indicating that the manufacturer has obtained all necessary regulatory approvals to market the model.

The range is expanding

The Model Y is now available in three versions: Propulsion, Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive, and All-Wheel Drive Long Range. Tesla has confirmed that a 7-seater configuration of its new Model Y will soon be available, along with the sporty Performance version.

The Shanghai Gigafactory, which produces the Model 3 and Model Y for the local and export markets, remains a strategic pillar for Tesla. Currently, delivery times for all three variants of the Model 3 are between 1 and 3 weeks, demonstrating that Tesla is not neglecting its sedan in favor of its SUV. There is a model for every taste!
