Renault 5 Restomod

The charm of the electric Restomod is its ability to blend retro and modern elements, as exemplified by this sprightly Renault 5 GTL.

Imagine yourself at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, a croissant in hand, enjoying a sunny morning while nearby, your yellow and red Renault R5 GTL restomod patiently awaits you. An icon of the 70s reinvented for the electric age, it draws attention with its timeless charm. But beware, with its small 22 kWh battery and a limited range of 80 km, this vintage gem won’t take you very far. Perfect for a stroll in Paris, but not for a forest getaway.

This ambitious project, completed in just four days, was featured on Vintage Mecanic, the flagship show of RMC Découverte hosted by François Allain. Born from collaboration among experts including 2cv Mehari Club Cassis, Link2concept, Incari, Factory Unit, and R-FIT, it represents a perfect fusion of tradition and modernity. The entire design was conceived by Alan Derosier, a renowned French automotive designer also behind Legende Automobiles’ Turbo 3.

The major innovation lies in the interior. The dashboard, designed by Incari, replaces the original analog meter with an elegant and intuitive digital interface. Thanks to the all-in-one Incari Studio HMI platform and the Incari RetroBox, this R5 can handle modern inputs while maintaining its vintage charm. As Celso Albuquerque, CEO of Incari Labs, explains: “We successfully modernized the Renault 5 while respecting the spirit of its original design, integrating technologies unimaginable in the 70s.”

In compliance with French standards, the vehicle’s weight remains unchanged, which explains the limited size of the battery. This gives this restomod an essentially urban purpose. Ideal for short trips or quick errands, it demonstrates how modern technology can harmoniously blend with classic design. A technical and aesthetic feat that celebrates both the past and the future.
