Here is the latest Chinese Audi A5!

The Audi A5L, produced in partnership with the state-owned manufacturer SAIC, is specifically tailored to Chinese customer expectations.

Audi continues to adapt to the preferences of the Chinese market where consumers love long, spacious sedans. The complete opposite of the European trend for compact SUVs! The new Audi A5L, resulting from the collaboration between Audi and SAIC, perfectly illustrates this trend with its “L” indicating Limousine or “more space and comfort.” It is expected to launch in mid-2025, replacing the A4L in the manufacturer’s lineup.

Unveiled last November at the Guangzhou Auto Show, the Audi A5L made a strong impression. Since then, the production version has received approval, with an official sales license application filed on February 19, 2025, by SAIC-Audi. Its commercial launch will mark a new step in Audi’s expansion into the Chinese market.

The Audi A5L initially surprises with its smooth and dynamic design. It features a long, curved hood, a streamlined roofline, and a low beltline. Its sculpted fenders enhance its commanding presence, while the rear is marked by modern LED taillights and a discreet ducktail spoiler. Unlike the international A5, this Chinese version adopts a traditional trunk instead of a Sportback hatch, a choice suited to local tastes.

The front design reflects Audi’s iconic style with a prominent grille and sharp LED headlights. Among the modern details are electric door handles and the availability of three bumper styles to customize the look.

All for Interior Comfort

With its generous dimensions, the Audi A5L is perfectly designed to meet Chinese market expectations. It measures 4903 mm in length, 1883 mm in width, and 1427 mm in height, making it larger than its global version. Its wheelbase of 2922 mm ensures comfortable interior space for rear passengers, a highly valued feature in China. It is 74 mm longer, 23 mm wider, and 17 mm lower than the standard A5. This sedan rides on 18, 19, or 20-inch wheels, adding elegance and a sporty touch. Its curb weight ranges from 1810 kg for the front-wheel-drive version to 1875 kg for the all-wheel-drive version.

Under the hood, the Audi A5L is equipped with the DXF engine, a 2-liter turbo four-cylinder designed by SAIC-Volkswagen Power Battery. This fifth-generation EA888 engine produces only 150 kW (201 hp) and incorporates a 48V mild hybrid technology to boost efficiency. Yes, in China, size is more important than power!
