Monsieur Le Mans christens the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta

Jacky Ickx has completed a few demonstration laps on the legendary Bathurst circuit driving the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Concept,

Now an ambassador for Genesis, Belgian legend Jacky Ickx returned to the iconic Mount Panorama circuit, 48 years after his historic victory at the Bathurst 1000 in 1977. This memorable moment coincided with the global debut of the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Concept, which the driver showcased in a demonstration ahead of the famous 12 Hours of Bathurst two weeks ago.

Partnering with Genesis, Ickx took the wheel of this revolutionary concept car, impressive with its bold design and, above all, its complete functionality. Before a captivated audience, the driver performed rapid laps on this legendary track, highlighting the real potential of the X Gran Berlinetta.

What if we meet again in 48 years?

For Ickx, this experience with Genesis rekindled vivid memories: “Bathurst is a unique circuit, comparable to great legends like Monaco or Spa. Although a slight curve has been added to the Conrod Straight to slow the cars down, its essence remains unchanged with its spectacular elevations.”

Jacky Ickx, a true icon of motorsport, is renowned for his 8 Formula 1 Grand Prix wins, 25 podiums, and especially his 6 victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, earning him the nickname “Monsieur Le Mans.” But his 1977 victory at the Bathurst 1000 remains legendary. At the time, he triumphantly participated on his first attempt, sharing the wheel of a monstrous Ford Falcon XC V8 with Allan Moffat.

During this visit, Ickx reunited with this iconic car and presented its 1977 trophy to Bathurst mayor Robert Taylor. At Allan Moffat’s request, the trophy will now be on display at the National Motor Racing Museum, alongside the famous Ford Falcon XC V8, a symbol of their historic triumph.
