Finally, the Grand Return of Formula 1! After an ever-shortening winter break that feels eternally long for enthusiasts, the 2025 season kicks off this weekend with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne (March 14-16). The twenty drivers on the grid, revitalized and reshuffled, are ready to resume competition. This year marks a turning point with six rookies on the starting grid, the first time since 2010. It’s also an opportunity to discover the new driver-team pairings: Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari, Carlos Sainz at Williams, and Esteban Ocon at Haas.

Introduced to the F1 calendar in 1996, the Albert Park circuit reclaims its role as the opening race in 2025 after several years dominated by Middle Eastern circuits. This return is due to a calendar adjustment related to Ramadan, which pushes the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian races to April. Thus, Melbourne hosts the 38th edition of the Australian GP, with 28 editions held on this iconic urban track.

This circuit, slightly redesigned in 2022, now offers a faster and more fluid layout, notably with the removal of a turn between the old turns 8 and 9, creating a long straightaway conducive to overtaking. The highlight for 2025? No less than four DRS zones, promising spectacular battles.

Among the drivers competing, several have already tasted victory in Melbourne: Fernando Alonso (2006), Valtteri Bottas (2019), Charles Leclerc (2022), Max Verstappen (2023), and Carlos Sainz (2024). But only Lewis Hamilton has won this event twice (2008, 2015). The race lap record is held by Charles Leclerc, with an impressive time of 1’19″813, set in 2024.
