Citroën AMI has conquered the African continent

Éric Vigouroux successfully and stylishly completed his Green Cruise, a Historic Crossing of Africa in a Citroën Ami.

After four months of an extraordinary adventure covering more than 16,000 km through 16 African countries, The Green Cruise has achieved its goal: to connect Ouarzazate, Morocco, to Cape Town, South Africa. Designed and led by Éric Vigouroux, a former rally raid driver, this extraordinary expedition marks a major milestone in the exploration of electric mobility and renewable energy sources.

Éric Vigouroux, a passionate adventurer and technological challenge seeker, drew inspiration from André Citroën’s legendary Black Cruise, created a century ago. “After three years of preparations, we are proud to have completed this historic expedition,” he declared upon arrival in Cape Town. “My goal was not only to demonstrate the potential of electric vehicles combined with clean energies, but also to recreate an adventure in the spirit of André Citroën’s feats.”

A Human and Technological Adventure

Starting from Ouarzazate on October 28, 2024, four specially modified Citroën Ami traveled diverse routes, from the Sahara Desert to African savannas, powered entirely by renewable energies: 95% solar, 4% hydroelectric, and 1% wind. This crossing, completed on February 28, 2025, represents a world-first and demonstrates the reliability of electric mobility even in the most demanding environments.

The expedition featured key milestones: 123 stops in villages, towns, and remote areas, 32 engaging meetings with universities and renewable energy experts, and raising awareness about accessible electric solutions. By highlighting Africa’s abundant renewable resources, The Green Cruise embodies a vision for the future. Traveling across the continent in a compact vehicle like the Citroën Ami, Éric Vigouroux and his team proved that electric mobility can meet the most ambitious challenges while inspiring new generations of innovators.
