Ford’s Latest Petty Trick

With its 16 liters, the “Frunk” unveiled by Ford for its Explorer and Capri is anything but a storage space. Pray that everything fits, because it’s costly!

But is it really possible to call this small compartment offered by Ford a Frunk? By way of comparison, Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y offer Frunks of 88 liters and 117 liters respectively, volumes that add genuine value for users. Here, Ford seems to have confused innovation with an unnecessary gadget, and the worst is yet to come: its price.

150 euros for a small compartment disguised as a front trunk? It’s a joke. While some manufacturers provide true additional trunks as standard, Ford offers a paid accessory at a disproportionate price. This “Frunk” struggles to offer any real practical advantage because, due to its shallow depth, it can only hold a few cables or small objects. Clearly, it is more of a marketing argument designed to artificially inflate technical specifications than a useful solution for drivers.

The easy installation and integrated net, touted as strengths, fail to compensate for the paucity of this offering. Why not include this mini-storage directly in vehicles? That would at least hide the absurdity of this priced proposition. Compared to references like Tesla, which offers functional, spacious, and integrated frunks, Ford is heading down a quite disappointing path. The American manufacturer should understand that this type of accessory no longer deceives consumers, who are increasingly demanding practicality and innovation.

In conclusion, let’s hope that the design of this accessory, as pointless and poorly conceived as it is, didn’t cost too much in R&D. Because if this effort reflects the brand’s ambition, there’s reason to be worried. Ford would do well to reconsider its priorities and offer real innovations instead of these half-baked gadgets.
