Especially don’t develop a favorite among these Volkswagens!

The Auto Shanghai Show is in full swing, and Volkswagen took the opportunity to unveil three new concepts: the ID. AURA, the ID. ERA, and the ID. EVO.
These models are part of Volkswagen’s “In China, for China” strategy, which eschews translation and aims to meet the very specific expectations of its Chinese customers. And, spoiler alert: there is little chance we will see them on our French roads someday.
With an announcement of over 30 new models for China by 2027, including 20 electrified vehicles, Volkswagen is showing that it is not doing things halfway. These three concepts preview the production models that Chinese consumers will soon be able to purchase, all equipped with Level 2 autonomous driving technologies. These cars promise to make journeys much easier thanks to systems capable of handling almost entirely on their own, from overtaking to integrating into traffic.
Three concepts, three partners, three identities
ID. ERA (SAIC Volkswagen): This large SUV offers three rows of seats and introduces autonomous range extender technology. In practice, a fuel-powered generator charges the battery while driving, adding 700 km to its range. With 300 km in electric mode, the ID. ERA claims over 1,000 km in total.
ID. EVO (Volkswagen Anhui): Designed for trendy urban youth, this 100% electric SUV is built on an 800-volt platform and offers zone-based electronic architecture that enriches the user experience through regular updates. Modernity and connectivity are on the agenda!
ID. AURA (FAW-Volkswagen): Compact and dynamic, this electric model targets the A segment customers who are budget-conscious but tech-savvy. Its features include an intelligent voice assistant and a central console inspired by a smartphone.

With these three tailored concepts for the Chinese market, Volkswagen affirms its local strategy. If these models pique your interest, keep in mind that they are designed, manufactured, and sold in China, so don’t expect to see them on our roads anytime soon… Hopefully, the German automaker will be equally inspired for its future European creations!
