Jeep Compass Quatro Rodas

Despite its rugged look, the new Jeep Compass is built on the same platform as the Peugeot 5008 and Citroën C5 Aircross

The third-generation Jeep model, expected to be officially unveiled next week, has leaked online through photos published by the Brazilian website QuatroRodas. More angular and robust than its predecessor, this Compass is still more suited for city centers than muddy off-road paths.

Manufactured in Europe, its production will begin this year at the Melfi plant in Italy. The model will be offered in mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric versions. There will be almost no visual difference between the combustion engine and electric models, apart from a discreet “e” badge on the tailgate of the electric version.

Under its bodywork, the new Compass uses the STLA Medium platform, shared with road-going crossovers such as the Peugeot 3008 and 5008, as well as the Opel Grandland and Citroën C5 Aircross. The electric variants could borrow engines and batteries from these models, with up to 321 horsepower and all-wheel drive options. Two battery capacities are possible: 73 kWh or 98 kWh. The version with the longest range, based on a 231-horsepower motor and a 98 kWh battery, could reach 700 km (WLTP).

If the plug-in hybrid Compass shares the Peugeot configuration, it will combine a 1.6L turbo petrol engine with an electric motor for a total power of 195 horsepower, but only front-wheel drive. An all-wheel-drive system remains uncertain. Quite a contradiction for a Jeep, wouldn’t you agree!
