Elon Musk once again promises a more affordable Tesla. Once again, the question arises: reality or just a promise?

Elon Musk, the charismatic CEO of Tesla, has once more made headlines by announcing the arrival of cheaper electric vehicles by 2025. This announcement comes after a subtly termed “pivotal” year for the company in 2024, which in reality was marked by disappointing financial results and a decline in deliveries.

The electric automobile giant recorded a revenue of $25.7 billion in the fourth quarter of 2024, below Wall Street’s expectations of $27.2 billion. Earnings per share, set at $0.73, also fell short of projections. However, despite these results, Tesla saw its stock price rise by over 100% in 2024, a testament to investor confidence in its future potential.

One day it’s yes, one day it’s no

The flagship promise that everyone was waiting for? No new autonomous vehicles, no super-powered Plaids, no Long Range at 1,000 km. No, just new electric models at more accessible prices. However, Musk remained vague on the details, leaving doubt about the exact price and technical specifications. A strategy that fuels speculation but recalls Tesla’s multiple past promises, sometimes slow to materialize.

Another notable development, Tesla plans to launch, starting in June 2025, tests of driverless autonomous cars via a paid service in Austin, Texas. Musk stated that these vehicles will operate without human supervision, a breakthrough that could redefine urban mobility.

Despite significant progress in reducing production costs, Tesla faces major challenges with declining demand in Europe, exacerbated by cuts in subsidies for electric vehicles. With these announcements, Tesla aims to maintain its status as an innovator while responding to market pressures. But the question remains: will these promises materialize this time?
