Chevrolet Blazer EV SS, 1st Electric Pace Car at Daytona 500

The Blazer EV SS 2025, the fastest SUV designed by Chevrolet, will be the Pace Car for the 67th DAYTONA 500 in the history of NASCAR.

The story is unfolding across the Atlantic where a historic moment will take place on Sunday, February 16, 2025: for the first time, the Pace Car that will lead the pack at the Daytona 500, the legendary race of NASCAR, will be electric! Out goes the Chevrolet Corvette V8 and other supercharged Ford Mustangs.

Expected on the market in the coming months, the Chevrolet Blazer EV SS is equipped with Wide Open Watts (WOW) technology, enabling it to reach 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds. With an impressive power output of 615 horsepower, it combines performance and technological innovations. The version leading the race is a production model with no mechanical modifications, enhanced by an exclusive design and integrated strobe lighting system.

“The DNA of Chevrolet is deeply linked to auto racing, and the Blazer EV SS is a perfect illustration of that,” emphasizes Scott Bell, the brand’s vice president. “We are thrilled to see this exceptional model open such a prestigious race.”

In addition to its electric performance, the Blazer EV SS includes Brembo front brakes, a sport chassis, and a 17.7-inch color touchscreen, the largest in its class. It is also equipped with Super Cruise driver assistance technology and has an estimated range of 487 km based on the U.S. EPA mixed cycle. In Europe, this would translate to about 550 km.

Will there soon be an Electric NASCAR Chevrolet?

In addition to its role in the DAYTONA 500, Chevrolet will take the opportunity to showcase the prototype Blazer EV.R NASCAR, developed in collaboration with NASCAR and its manufacturer partners. This experimental vehicle aims to explore and integrate new technologies in the world of motorsport. “Our V8 engines remain an essential element of NASCAR, but we also see racing as a technology laboratory where we test and refine innovations,” explains Jim Campbell, Vice President GM Performance & Motorsports.

As a reminder, Chevrolet won all three NASCAR manufacturers championships in 2024, a feat achieved for the second consecutive year. The brand now has 102 victories at Daytona International Speedway, including 26 wins at the DAYTONA 500, an unmatched record.

The defending champion of the DAYTONA 500, William Byron, driver of the Chevrolet No. 24 from Hendrick Motorsports, will defend his trophy this year.

Lastly, Chevrolet has never mentioned that the Blazer, even in its more subdued versions, could soon cross the Atlantic to be sold in Europe. But you never know, perhaps one day, now that Tesla is in a rapid decline.
