A Little Rain Won’t Stop a Porsche from Hitting the Curbs!

To combine pleasure and safety, Michelin and Porsche are offering a new tire setup to extend track days even in the rain.

Porsche and Michelin unveil the Pilot Sport S 5, an innovative tire designed to extend the track day season in wet and cold conditions. Enthusiasts who enjoy circuit driving know that these greasy, wet conditions often mean waiting in the pits to avoid damaging their cars’ bodywork, or worse, causing injury. They will surely appreciate tires adapted to the chilly spring and fall weather. Intended for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS (992), this road-legal tire promises exceptional behavior on the track and in everyday driving.

Developed to offer increased grip and push the limits of hydroplaning resistance, the Pilot Sport S 5 features a specific tread pattern. Its four deep central grooves (7.4 mm) allow optimal water evacuation, increasing the vehicle’s stability. Its silica-rich compound improves wet grip with a rapid warm-up, ideal between 5 and 15 °C. Circuit enthusiasts know that these greasy, wet conditions often mean waiting in the pits to avoid damaging their cars’ bodywork, or worse, injuring themselves.

Tests conducted on Michelin’s soaked circuit in Ladoux have improved lap times by 10 seconds compared to the Pilot Sport Cup 2. Furthermore, tests on the Nürburgring and Portimão proved its versatility, with solid performance in dry conditions and temperatures above 20 °C.

With controlled wear and excellent handling, the Pilot Sport S 5 suits demanding drivers, both on the track and daily. Initially available for the GT3 RS (275/35 ZR 20 at the front, 335/30 ZR 21 at the rear), it is distributed by Manthey, Porsche specialist. Thanks to this offering, Porsche and Michelin broaden the horizons of motorsport enthusiasts, providing precision and safety in all weather conditions.
