Is the Tesla Model Y too quiet to be honest?

The deliveries of the revamped Tesla Model Y are imminent, but it seems a detail is troubling the first testers.

At Tesla, innovation is a daily sport, and with the new Model Y, Elon Musk’s brand is pushing the user experience even further, especially where it’s least expected! The cabin has reportedly become so silent that they might need to add… some noise!

Tesla has gone all out to make the cabin of the new Model Y as comfortable as possible. With ultra-effective acoustic glazing, optimized door seals, and impressive sound insulation, the result is an almost monastic silence inside. Gone are the noises from rolling and external turbulence. It’s a soundproof atmosphere, so much so that a development driver described the experience as “strangely silent.”

The song of the electric revolution

More seriously, some drivers are concerned that this tranquility could become a safety issue. It’s indeed difficult to hear an ambulance approaching from afar, or simply an electric scooter passing by in town. Tesla might therefore adjust its systems, perhaps by enhancing the “Joe Mode,” designed to reduce the volume of non-urgent alerts. A technology that works somewhat like noise-canceling systems in headphones. Why not reverse its use to amplify critical sounds, such as emergency vehicle sirens or the noise of electric vehicles?

The silence can especially be unsettling for the driver who quickly loses all sense of speed without auditory reminders. Considering the acceleration potential of Teslas, one could easily lose their license without any safeguards. And for those nostalgic for the roar of V8 engines, why not dream of a future where electric motors could easily exceed 20,000 RPM with a melody quite different from that of the best thermal mechanics, yet just as enchanting? Tesla will surely find a solution. In the meantime, settle in, enjoy the silence… and listen to the technology whistling in your ears.
