The English police equip themselves with Skoda Octavia vRS interception vehicles

The British police will renew part of its highway interception vehicle fleet with Skoda Octavia VRS.

Like the French authorities, Great Britain has conducted a challenging study to define the ideal profile for its intervention vehicle. In France, the choice was the very spartan Alpine A110, which, while powerful, is not practical for quickly getting in and out and storing equipment (or even weapons), etc. Thus, intimidation was prioritized.

On the other side of the Channel, pragmatism prevailed: a sedan and a station wagon with 4 or 5 doors, XXL trunk, and flashy colors. The choice was therefore made for the new Skoda Octavia vRS, whose 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine delivers 265 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque.

Interestingly, the British police did not opt for the all-wheel-drive version that would suit the legendary weather of our cousins but chose the front-wheel-drive version. However, the transmission is still ensured by a DSG dual-clutch transmission with 7 gears. The acceleration to 100 km/h remains quite respectable at 6.4 seconds for the sedan and 6.5 seconds for the station wagon.

A trunk like a prison cell

The main selling point of the Skoda Octavia vRS is of course its cargo capacity: 600 liters for the sedan and 640 liters for the station wagon. The second argument is the development by Skoda UK of a complete vehicle customization department for rapid intervention vehicles right in England, aiming to attract ambulance, passenger transport, transplant services, etc. A genuine business that has convinced the British police.
