As the electric car market approaches maturity, the price of used models is following an unexpected trend.

The La Centrale Observatory presents a new report on the used car market for the first quarter of 2025. Key trend: the price gap between electric and diesel vehicles has never been so narrow.

After several years of increases, the used car market is regaining some balance. The average price of used vehicles now stands at €20,600, a slight decrease of -1.39% over three months and -5.89% over a year.

However, not all segments follow the same dynamic. Recent vehicles show relative stability, while models over 15 years old experience a sharp correction with a decrease of -6.6%.

Electric vehicles increasingly competitive against diesel

The most striking evolution concerns electric vehicles. Their average price continues to fall, reaching €20,490, a decrease of -6.44% over the quarter and -17.51% over the year. For comparison, diesel models average at €19,970, reducing the gap to just €520. A threshold never before reached, bringing electric vehicles closer to thermal engine models in the used market.

At the same time, sales of used electric cars are exploding, with a 36.81% increase over one year. The number of listings on La Centrale follows this trend with an increase of +28%. Despite this, these models remain a minority, accounting for only 2.9% of transactions, far behind diesel (45%) and gasoline (40%).

Three models dominate sales in 2025: the Renault Zoe, the Peugeot e-208, and the Tesla Model 3. An iconic city car, an affordable compact, and a premium sedan now more accessible.

With prices approaching those of diesel and a rapidly expanding offering, electric vehicles are establishing themselves as a credible alternative in the used car market.
