The Alpine A390 has that soul that a Tesla will never have!

The curtain finally rises on the highly anticipated Alpine A390, the brand’s first electric SUV in history.

Inspired 85% by the A390_β concept unveiled in 2024, this new Alpine immediately imposes its identity with a sharp silhouette and a strong character. Alpine wants us to forget any reference to the much-despised SUV by describing it as a Sport Fastback. In front of this sporty coupe on high legs, it is very easy to agree with this perspective.

With its sculpted lines, bold design, and “Cosmic Dust” light signature, the A390 retains Alpine’s sporty DNA while incorporating unprecedented versatility for the brand. Measuring 4.62 m long, it fits between a Tesla Model Y Performance and the now 100% electric Porsche Macan, just like itself. Better yet, it displays a real dynamic ambition with three electric motors, all-wheel drive, torque vectoring, and up to 470 horsepower for the GTS version allowing a 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Even the “smaller” GT version with 400 hp promises great sensations with a 0 to 100 in 4.8 seconds.

An Alpine that is no longer a Renault

Developed on the AmpR Medium platform of the Renault group, the A390 is not content with raw performance. Its engine architecture features one block at the front and two at the rear, allowing for agile and responsive handling. Alpine even promises a tendency toward oversteer, a promise of playful behavior. And thanks to a weight kept to 2,100 kg, it can confidently promise real liveliness, despite its size and five seats.

The interior combines high-end comfort with a racing ambiance in line with what the A110 has accustomed us to. We find Sabelt seats, a flat-bottom sport steering wheel, and a console inspired by the A110 but paired with a double 12-inch screen. The experience is enhanced by the Alpine Telemetrics system, which transforms each journey into a driving session thanks to live data, video replays, or even challenges to be tackled like a video game.

Under the floor, the 89 kWh Verkor battery promises up to 555 km of range in the WLTP cycle, with fast charging in 25 minutes from 15 to 80%, thanks to a power of up to 190 kW.

With this A390, Alpine asserts its desire to remain true to its sporty spirit while fully entering the electric era. A high-performing, sharp SUV designed to appeal to enthusiasts. The final price remains to be confirmed as Alpine is only disclosing a range between 65,000 and 76,000 euros. While it’s evident that it will not flirt with the 82,959,000 euros of the entry-level Macan, is it equipped to compete against the Tesla Model Y Performance priced at less than 60,000 euros? Without any hesitation, yes, because Alpine has managed to present us with a true Alpine.
