Tesla sells less but is still producing faster!

Tesla has just crossed a major industrial milestone with the production of its 8 millionth vehicle globally.

This model, a Model Y Ultra Red, rolled off the production lines of Tesla’s Gigafactory in Berlin on June 6, 2025. A strong symbol for the manufacturer, which continues to shake up the standards of the automotive industry. An impressive industrial milestone has been reached, but at what cost?

What stands out most is the speed at which Tesla has reached this threshold. Only eight months ago, in October 2024, the company celebrated its 7 millionth car in Fremont. In less than a year and despite production halts at its four factories to modernize the Model Y lines, Tesla has produced an additional million vehicles. This record pace illustrates an exponential acceleration of its manufacturing capacity. It took nearly two decades to reach the first million; today, Tesla produces a new one every eight months.

The Model Y, the global best-seller for the past two years, remains the engine of this performance. It is the only model assembled at Tesla’s four major sites in Berlin, Shanghai, Austin, and Fremont, spread across three continents. This geographical deployment allows for massive and rapid production, tailored to the global challenges of the brand.

However, this industrial feat comes with a significant challenge: selling this production. While the factories are operating at full capacity, demand is lagging. The signs of a slowdown in sales are now clear, and several analysts mention a risk of oversupply. Producing faster is an advantage… as long as the cars find buyers.

Tesla therefore finds itself facing a complex equation. How to maintain such a sustained pace while adapting its commercial strategy to a more fluctuating demand? At a time when growth is no longer enough to mask warning signals, the company is entering a critical phase of its development.
